What is the best mode of transportation from Toronto to Chicago or New York?

Going from Toronto to Chicago or New York, which of the following do you think of the best in safety and environmental (carbon)? Bus (Greyhound), train (Amtrak) air (by different airlines) Provided that we do not take care of time and money. I want to hear opinions, what people think that to travel on different ways, between the cities.
