Pacific Mall – Markham’s destination shopping centre
by Logan Steele
This Markham located Chinese shopping gem was once one of Toronto’s best kept secrets, known only to the city’s Asian community, area residents and those in the loop. This modern vendor’s market is a labyrinth of retail discovery. From the most current electronic devises, jewelery, eye wear, clothing, accessories etc., this shopping complex has it all. However I must add; that with its sudden surge in popularity and all the bootleg DVD’s and counterfeit merchandise available within its confines, the mall has lost a bit of its flare. I feel now that it is hard to feel confident in your purchases in the fear that they may actually be knock-offs. Although I must also mention that there are still many legitimate retailers within the mall that do sell genuine product. Now, I’m not a novice and do know that a large part of the old allure of the mall, was that they had some of the best replica designer product in town. But, at that time you knew exactly what you were getting and those particular vendors left no question on whether or not their items were in fact fakes. This was once the place to go to catch a sneak peek on what cutting edge products were being released in the global market and get it before all others in the city. I hope that it restores that same sensibility. None the less it is still worth checking out, even if just for the experience.
