The collaboration between Vodafone and Samsung, two absolute giants in the telephony world, created quite a stir when it was announced, but is the result the success that a combination of some of the industries greatest minds should produce, or has it gone too far?
Looks:
Before we talk about what it looks like, a little about what to expect; any phone with an all new interface presents a few problems, and with this Linux based operating system there is much to get used to. That shouldn’t put off those who are interested in the new, however, and there is much to like here.
It’s by far not the best looking phone on the market, but nor is it the worst. In fact it has some interesting quirks, and being designed with social networking as its primary objective it is no surprise it looks a little different from the norm. Sleek, of not small at 135g, the big three and a half inch screen is the focal point – and it looks the part. The phone also exudes quality – there is nothing cheap looking, or feeling, about the case and it is very stylish, and the usual three main buttons sit neatly at the foot of the handset.
The way the interface works is key to this phone – the thinking is to focus on your contacts rather than the features that the phone has to offer. This is both a clever move and an irritating one; those who want a phone dedicated to keeping in touch will love it, while those looking for a conventional handset will take ages settling down with it. There is, however, a way of bringing the most frequently used icons to the fore – something that is very useful indeed.
The screen, while responsive, lacks the superfast touch of some rivals and may not be as acceptable to many who are looking for quick fire use. However, this is a phone with a different conceptual outlook, and one that may just be very inspirational indeed.
Sound:
While not breaking new ground the sound system, with its very welcome 3.5mm jack, is perfectly decent. With a variety of formats to choose from and an FM radio there is not much to say other than that it offers decent sound quality for music, calls and using the speakerphone.
Camera:
A five megapixel camera offers good photo capability, and with its LED light is a cut above some comparable models. Designed, clearly, for sending snaps between those who are in touch this is a perfectly good system that is fun to use and easy to, and has surprisingly good video capability into the bargain – a good effort by all concerned in this respect.
Connectivity:
This is a winner where connectivity is concerned, and being dedicated to on the move constant contact that is no surprise. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G HSDPA, GPS and USB, plus SMS, MMS and email are here to begin with, and add in access to many of the social networking sites as standard features and you have an excellent set up. Filters for contacts and a host of superb features make it even more attractive, especially to the target audience – the young up and coming user.
Memory and Battery:
The claimed ten hours of talk time is very impressive for a phone that carries such a big screen and so much in the way of functions, and with a massive 16GB of memory and microSD there is so much memory here you can’t possibly want more.
Conclusion:
An interesting idea that could have fallen at the first hurdle, the 360/H1 is instead a success, a great phone that takes a neat idea and makes it work. Consider getting deals on mobile contracts as they offer good discounts and you can return them or cancel them if you don’t like it, try the Vodafone 360 Samsung H1 and see if it works for you. Be warned that if you are a long time user of more standard concept handsets there is much here to learn.

Toronto is the most promising city of Canada. It has a vibrant culture, impressive architecture, a turbulent history and an educated population, easy.
