Imagine a typical mall, that houses many of the same stores that one would expect to encounter at any other shopping centre. However; the twist is that all the store’s and all its merchandise are marked at 30% – 75% off. This is the best way I can describe Dixie Outlet Mall. This outlet centre contains over a 100 retailers but, I must say that none of the stores harboured within this colossal complex, are particularly outstanding. You can expect to find such generic mall faves as; Guess, Mexx, Winners, Levi’s Strauss all at amazing prices but, nothing with any true “wow factor”. Don’t get me wrong if outlet shopping is your thing it is certainly worth a look but, phenomenal finds may prove to be few and far between. In other words don’t expect to waltz out there with a Prada purse purchased for a song, its just not going to happen. Manage your expectations people, that’s all I’m saying.

The luxurious women’s line signature pinstripe pant suit and corset ted dress, has been seen worn by everyone from Madonna to Fergie. Although better recognized for their take on the feminine silhouette, the designers broadened their fan base with the release of the highly anticipated men’s collection and D&G in the early 1990’s. Like many successful labels, the fashion house also includes a thriving footwear, perfume / cologne, eye wear and accessory component. Affectionately referred to as “Yonge and Eg” (or “Young and Eligible” alluding to its “Thirtysomething” demographic inhabitants). This Northern portion of Toronto’s infamous Yonge strip is home to some amazing designer boutiques, destination shops and restaurants. Its Midtown environment lends itself to a variety of big chain retailers as well as some great specialty shops. Littered with with quaint cafes, pocket sized pooches and the ultra fashionable, this is definitely a part of town like no other (well maybe a little bit like Yorkville but, I’m not judging).
The Annex – Bloor St.’s historical district

Who would have thought in 1835, when the Annex was simply two vacant farm lots, that it would blossom into the community it has in this present day. The area is bordered by Bathurst Ave., St. George St. and Bloor St. contains within it a unique and down played almost bohemian demeanor. It is one of the only areas in the city that is not over run by large chain retailers and actually maintains a strong independent business market. The shopping on this strip I do find a bit sparse however; there are a few boutiques that carry some interesting merchandise. At very least it is worth the trip to see one of Toronto’s oldest suburban areas and its historic mansion littered streets.

When Adele Casagrande married Edoardo Fendi in 1925, they decided to change the name of her already established leather and fur shop to Fendi. Little did they know that they would also change the coarse of how high fashion would be viewed throughout the world from that point onward. Adapting the double F “Zucco” logo in the 1960’s, prompted by German Head Designer Karl Lagerfeld, Fendi went on to become a world wide force for designer luxury goods. Their ready to wear line gained immediate praise and although the dealt lesser expensive pelt products, a sacrifice in quality was never an issue. To this very day this fabulous house shows no signs of slowing down. That is, if record sales of their highly sought after “Spy Bag” in 2005 and Mr. Lagerfelds stunningly historic show on top of The Great Wall in 2007 serves as any indication. Fendi would appear to be just as relevant as ever before.
